Volunteer Opportunities

Click here for a volunteer application!

Volunteers at the Humane Society of Portage County provide immeasurable affection, devotion, and time to our animals. In return, they receive the unconditional love of animals who need the touch of a gentle hand, or the satisfaction of knowing that their volunteer work assisted us in providing food, comfort and veterinary care to animals in need.

We welcome anyone 18 years or older who would like to volunteer their time and is interested in making a difference. Persons under the age of 18 can volunteer if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Interested individuals should complete the attached volunteer application and return it by mail or drop it off at the shelter. Our volunteer coordinator will then contact you regarding an upcoming volunteer orientation session; sessions are held approximately every two weeks. Sessions run 45 minutes and include a tour of the facility, an introduction to the services and philosophy of the Humane Society of Portage County, and a discussion of current volunteer opportunities. All volunteers are required to show proof of a current tetanus vaccination before beginning their volunteer work.

We often get calls from enthusiastic students who want to volunteer at the shelter. Please call to discuss volunteering options. There are many ways to help the shelter pets without actually spending time directly with the animals. All it takes is a creative idea and motivation to help the animals. Fun community service projects can be developed by students who want to benefit homeless animals; for example, students could conduct a product drive for the shelter and collect much needed donations for the care of the animals. Or students may want to consider planning a special fundraising event for the HSPC. One unique idea could blossom into an annual event that greatly benefits our pets!

Please call the shelter at (715) 344-6012 for more information. If you would like to become a volunteer, please complete a Volunteer Application and return it by mail or drop it at the shelter.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Humane Society of Portage County!
